Today is my 30th birthday. If someone had told me 5 years ago that at 30 years old I would be back in school at ISU and working part time at Farm Bureau again, I probably would have been very disappointed.

Five years ago I was finishing my Finance degree at ISU and working part time at Farm Bureau and was very eager to move on with my life. In fact, 5 years ago, I thought that by 30 I would be wealthy.

If someone had told me 1 year ago that I would be back in school at ISU and working part time at Farm Bureau, I would have said “How can I afford that?”

This year I will make just over half of what I made in my previous job.

And yet, I have never been happier.

My marriage has never been better.

My children bring me daily joy and happiness.

I have never had a job that I enjoyed more than the one I have now.

I am excited to be learning a new discipline for which my brain is well suited. (computer/electrical engineering).

Over the last year, The Lord has made it possible for me to quit a job that I hated, go back to school, get a good part time job and remain financially solvent all at the same time.

I have a wonderful wife and wonderful children, two houses, three dogs, and a good job.

My cup runneth over.

Penelope stepped on a food processor blade today and had her 2nd trip to the ER. She is now home watching Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and will be probably just watching movies for the next few days until she can walk again.

This was Penelope's first time pushing a chair somewhere to get something she couldn't reach. Since she is so good at climbing, it hasn't really been a necessity for most things, but this may mark the beginning of a new era. It hasn't happened since, so we're hoping she will hold off for a few more months.

My friend Ryan and I went to Zanavoo cave a few weeks ago. The name is the coolest thing about it, but I did get a good picture or two.

Penelope's first word this morning was socky? She managed to get 2 on her hands, but was struggling getting the 2 on her feet.

New Discovery

Saturday, my friend Ryan and I went caving down by Preston. Ryan talked to a guy who knew of a cave in the hills west of Preston, ID. We have reason to believe that while many know of the cave, we may have been the first people (at least in a long time) to have explored it to the bottom. We repelled down about 100 feet and were not at the bottom, so we hiked back to get the 200 ft. rope and went down again almost another 100 feet. The cave was beautiful and full of formations from top to bottom. You can see pictures here. Click on the album, "Ryan-Chris Cave."
